So often, what we hear about U.S. manufacturing is that another factory is shutting down, and more jobs are leaving the country. However, there are also some happy stories.
Take the new Nestlé Purina pet food factory that is set to open in Hartwell, Georgia.
This plant will create as many as 240 new jobs over the next five years, Nestlé Purina said.
The Hartwell site will be Purina’s 21st factory in the U.S. and the first new factory there in 20 years. The company plans to invest USD 320 million (CHF 310 million) in the facility between now and 2023.
Nestlé Purina said the site will help Purina continue its goal of expanding capacity and distribution in the Southeast of the United States.
Leading Purina brands include Purina ONE, Dog Chow, Friskies, Tidy Cats and Pro Plan.
The investment is in line with Nestlé’s strategy to increasingly focus capital spending on advancing the high-growth food and beverage categories of coffee, petcare, infant nutrition and bottled water.
Distribution center operations are expected to begin in 2018, with production to follow in 2019.
