More Americans are concerned about being seen in a swimsuit (24 percent) than are concerned about the possibility of seeing a shark (13 percent), according to a new survey of summertime worries from fitness center operator Planet Fitness.

This is not an indication of healthy body self-image.

Hitting the beach stresses many people out, with 46 percent saying they would rather speak in public than wear their bathing suit.

However, it is not just about being seen in a swimsuit, as even just shopping for one can make many run from the dunes.

Twenty-seven million Americans share anxieties when it comes to shopping for a bathing suit, and 56 million confess they would even choose getting a sunburn if it meant they could avoid the shopping altogether.

Planet Fitness said it’s inviting everyone to join the Judgement Free Zone, a safe place where like-minded members can feel comfortable and unintimidated.

The company is running a promotion in which new members can join for just $1 down (enrollment fee), then $10 a month with no commitment. It’s a limited-time offer.

Consider this: having a healthy attitude about your body first may actually give you the drive to get in shape.

Of course, we usually join one of these fitness centers because we don’t feel good about the way we look.

But getting in shape is hard work, and the progress can be painfully slow. Far too many people join a gym, then never go.

So, it’s good that Planet Fitness stresses their “Judgement Free Zone”. Just think about relaxing your own self-judgement as a healthy first step, instead of worrying about the judgement of others.
